Empowering Dreams: Stephanie's Journey with Us

Stephanie's childhood was marked by the joyful chaos of a large family. Adopted at a young age, Stephanie was raised in a home with 18 siblings. Here she learned the importance of resilience and perseverance from her parents, who worked tirelessly to provide for their family. Stephanie's father taught her many life skills with the hope she would one day live on her own. For the last 13 years, Stephanie has lived in a supported residential program for individuals with disabilities. Her first goal was to obtain her drivers license and purchase a car. Undeterred by societal barriers, Stephanie accomplished both in 2017. Her next goal was then to become a homeowner. Yet, despite her achievements, the dream of homeownership remained elusive due to financial constraints.

That's when Stephanie reached out to Habitat for Humanity of Berkeley County. Stephanie's decision to apply for our assistance stemmed from a desire for stability and independence. Through our support and the collective efforts of the community, Stephanie's dream of owning a home began to take shape. As we spearhead the Hutchinson Lane project, Stephanie's story serves as a testament to the transformative impact of affordable housing initiatives. Her journey highlights not only the power of perseverance but also the profound difference that safe and stable housing can make in the lives of individuals and families.
